Violin for Beginners Introduction
You want to learn how to play the violin but you don’t know where to start.
If you never played music and can’t read music notation you may think that it’s too difficult or too expensive for you.
But you are still secretly in love with the violin. What should you do if you (or your child) want to start playing violin?
This is what you need:
- Violin lessons (hire a teacher, find online lessons or buy a good book)
- Violin (in a solid case, no gigbag, a bow and a resin block)
- Shoulder support (so your violin rests comfortably and securely on your shoulder)
- Music stand (for your sheet music)
- Tuning fork or electronic tuner
TIP: Start with renting a violin. If after a few months you feel you will continue then it’s time to buy one buy.
TIP: You can buy fine instruments on the internet at bargain prices. But for most people it makes sense to get advice from a specialist. You need to ask plenty of questions and have the sales person demonstrate the instrument if you are inexperienced.
The following video introduces the violin to beginners.
It was posted on YouTube by Angel, a girl who wants to share what she learned in the Yamaha School of Music in Philippines..
Duration : 0:8:47
The first things you will learn are:
- the parts of the violin
- how to hold the bow
- why you use rosin
- how to tune the violin
You can find the online violin tuner at http://www.get-tuned.com/violin_tuner.php

Thank you! I learned a lot more from your lesson, here, than I did from many of the other beginner videos! Very informative! Thank you, again!
